COUNCIL CLOSURES & COMPLIANCE THIS LONG WEEKEND

Additional regulatory patrols by Shellharbour City Council, NSW Fisheries and Maritime Officers and an increased police presence are planned for the city’s reserves, beaches, Lake Illawarra and the Shellharbour Marina precinct over the Australia Day long weekend.

Patrols by Council officers will be increased to ensure compliance with parking requirements.

Parking around Reddall Reserve will be at a premium on Friday, with Australia Day Breakfast by the Lake and the 2024 Oakberry Acai NSW Country Championships at Warilla Beach.

Event parking is available at Howard Fowles Oval. Please be patient and allow time to walk to the events. Limited accessible parking is available.

A 24-seater shuttle will be operating from the oval from 7am to 2pm to the Breakfast by the Lake site. Passengers are requested to minimise luggage such as marquees and eskis.

Council staff and security providers will also be inspecting Bass Point Reserve and Reddall Reserve to deter illegal camping. Camping issues may also be referred to police for assistance.

Council crews will be cleaning and restocking amenities throughout the weekend.

Visitors to Bass Point Reserve are reminded to obey parking signs and that off-road four-wheel-driving, dogs and fires are prohibited in all parts of the reserve.

Driving must be confined to roads and parking must be in designated parking areas only within the reserve.

Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer encouraged everyone to be mindful of signage and follow advice to ensure a safe and happy public holiday.

“Our beaches, parks and reserves are popular places to spend Australia Day but please be aware of overcrowding, take your rubbish with you and follow the advice of Council rangers, lifeguards and police,” Mayor Homer said.

“Importantly, if you’re enjoying our beautiful beaches, please swim between the flags, be aware of the conditions and talk to our lifeguards if you have any questions,” he said.
