Have your say on the Oak Flats Town Centre pedestrian upgrades

Shellharbour City Council has commenced plans to improve the safety of pedestrians and drivers on Central Ave in Oak Flats.

The proposed upgrades aim to reduce traffic incidents on the Central Ave and Fisher Street intersection and accommodate an increase in pedestrian activity.

Proposed plans include the installation of four raised pedestrian crossings to physically reduce vehicle speed at key crossing points, give priority to pedestrians and minimise the impact to existing on street parking.

Funding has been secured under the 2021/22 NSW Federal Road Safety Program and the project is anticipated to commence by March 2023.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the proposed upgrades would go a long way towards ensuring traffic safety in what had become a busy area.

“We are committed to improving pedestrian safety in our town centres, including future proposed upgrades in Terry Street in Albion Park. We are actively working to improve pedestrian safety throughout the city,” Mayor Homer said.
