DRAFT PROPOSED MARKETS OVER COUNCIL OWNED AND MANAGED LAND POLICY
Community encouraged to comment

Shellharbour City residents are encouraged to have their say on its Draft Markets Over Council Owned and Managed Land Policy.

Council unanimously endorsed the draft policy for public exhibition at its November meeting. Submissions close 10 December 2023.

The draft policy aims to facilitate well managed markets that provide economic and social benefits to support the local economy and the community.

The policy also outlines approved locations and provides clear guidelines on the approval and management of markets.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer encouraged the community to have their say on the draft policy.

“Shellharbour City Council is committed to supporting local businesses, fostering community engagement, and creating vibrant public spaces,” Mayor Homer said.

“In line with this commitment, the proposed draft policy was developed to provide a framework for the establishment and operation of markets on Council owned and managed land.

“Markets are growing in popularity and provide a platform for local businesses, artisans, and producers to showcase their products and services to the community.

“They encourage community participation and interaction, and stimulate economic activity by attracting visitors to our region. This benefits local businesses and stimulates job creation,” he said.

The draft policy is on public exhibition until 10 December 2023.

Submissions must be made in writing and addressed to The Chief Executive Officer, Dharawal Country, Locked Bag 155 Shellharbour City Centre, 2529 or sent by email to council@shellharbour.nsw.gov.au
