EASTER LONG WEEKEND

Regulatory patrols around Shellharbour City’s outdoor spaces

The Easter long weekend will see additional regulatory patrols by Shellharbour City Council, NSW Fisheries and Maritime Officers, as well as an increased police presence at the city’s reserves, beaches, Lake Illawarra and the Shellharbour Marina precinct.

Shellharbour City Council officers will be undertaking surveillance patrols at Bass Point to ensure parking compliance. Visitors are reminded to park in designated parking areas only and that off-road four-wheel-driving, dogs and fires are prohibited in all parts of the reserve. Failure to comply may result in fines.

Council staff and security providers will also inspect Bass Point Reserve and Reddall Reserve to deter illegal camping. Camping issues may also be referred to police for assistance.

Council has arranged for additional afternoon cleaning, restocking of amenities and the emptying of bins in high visitation areas.

Shellharbour City beaches will continue to be patrolled throughout the public holiday. Lifeguards will be stationed at three locations at Warilla, two locations at North Shellharbour and one location at South Shellharbour.

The Shellharbour Airport and The Links Shell Cove will remain open as normal. Some Council services and facilities will be closed or have different operating hours. For the full list of closures please visit Council's website.

Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer said he wished everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter break.

“The long weekend will see high visitation to our beaches, parks and reserves. I ask everyone planning on being by the water to stay sun smart, follow the direction of lifeguards and swim between the flags,” Mayor Homer said.

“Please help protect our beautiful natural spaces by always taking your rubbish with you and following regulatory signage related to parking and camping.

“Be sensible when fishing and using recreational watercraft. Remain aware of changing conditions,” he said.
