Release

Update: Tuesday 9 April

Shellharbour residents who have suffered flood damage to their property on Saturday can dispose of their flood-damaged waste free of charge at Dunmore Waste Disposal Depot during opening days and times

The waiver covers flood-damaged household items including furniture, vegetation, debris and other flood-related products. It does not apply to recyclable materials.

Do I need to do anything prior to dropping of my flood damaged waste, or can I just turn up?

No, you can just turn up. However, once you arrive at the waste depot to use the free flood waste disposal, you must sign a declaration stating that the waste is a result of flooding from Saturday’s rain event.

Please note, there may be longer than usual wait times, particularly on weekends, and residents are asked to remain patient.

How long will the Waste Fee Waiver be in place for?

This waste fee waiver will be reviewed on a weekly basis and residents will be updated through Council’s social media channels.

Fee-free waste disposal for flood-affected residents

Sunday 7 April

Shellharbour City Council will be providing fee-free waste disposal for flood-affected residents at the Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot.

Council has been advised this afternoon of the NSW Government waiving the waste levy charge, which is appreciated.

The waiver of the waste levy charge applies to waste generated in Shellharbour until 30 June 2024, as a result of this event.

If your property has waste created by the flood event, please contact council during business hours to request free disposal of your flood waste at the Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot.

“Council staff, along with the NSW SES and NSW Police, have been working very hard to assess the damage and clean the debris,” Mayor Chris Homer said.

“I want to thank our dedicated engineering , field staff and other city council support staff who spent many hours cleaning up, particularly in the early hours of Saturday morning, beforehand and after this event.

“Now as residents continue the clean-up, they can drop their flood-damaged materials to Dunmore Recycling and Waste Depot.

The SES are working with Council to assist flood impacted residents and to notify impacted residents of the flood damaged waste disposal opportunity.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the NSW SES for their hard work and help during this flooding event,” Mayor Homer said.

Council is aware of damage to sections of Yellow Rock Road which will require restoration works to be undertaken. Access to some properties on this road is currently impacted. The surface of Calderwood Road has also been damaged and Council advises motorists to take care on the roads across Shellharbour whilst our work crews continue to perform road repairs, cleaning of roads, culverts and facilities across theCity.

Remember to please contact the SES for emergency help on 132 500. Otherwise, to report damage to Council roads and infrastructure please contact Council on (02) 4221 6111.
