GET INVOLVED IN CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

Shellharbour Mayor encourages community to ‘roll up their sleeves’

Shellharbour City Council is encouraging the community to roll up their sleeves and help improve their suburbs and spaces this Clean Up Australia Day.

Each year, Clean Up Australia Day encourages communities across the country to take positive action, clean up and conserve their local area.

This year’s community event will be held on Sunday March 3. A clean-up day for businesses will be held on Tuesday February 27, while an event for schools will be held on Friday March 1.

Vapes, cigarette butts, coffee cups and soft plastics are amongst the commonly reported items collected by volunteers.

Registration is free and participants receive a Clean Up kit containing gloves, bags and other resources, with packs for individuals, families and community groups available.

Businesses are asked to pay a small fee for clean-up materials.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer encouraged the community to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

“I encourage everyone in Shellharbour to register and play a role in keeping our beautiful city clean,” Mayor Homer said.

“By working together, we can help preserve and protect Shellharbour’s beautiful environment and coastline from litter, and ensure these spaces remain safe and clean for the future.
