2024 GOOD NEIGHBOUR AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Shellharbour City Council announced the winners of the 2024 Good Neighbour Awards at a special celebration at the Civic Centre on Friday night.

The annual awards recognise and celebrate the community members who reach out, support and help care for the people in their neighbourhoods.

The 2024 winner are:

Good Neighbour of the Year
• Winner: Greg and Sue Walsh (Mt Warrigal)
• Runner up: Linda Bardak (Tullimbar)
• Highly commended: Ash and Sam Gill (Albion Park)l; Merilyn and Tony Muscat (Albion Park); Elaine Brown (Oak Flats); James O’Connell (Shell Cove)
• Children’s choice: Rosie Di Fazio (Albion Park)

Street of the Year: McGregor Avenue, Barrack Heights

Mayor Chris Homer congratulated the winners, and those who nominated them, for making their neighbourhoods great places to live.

“Council’s Good Neighbour Awards are a great way to recognise and thank those in the community who show kindness, efforts and willingness to lend a hand,” Mayor Homer said.

“Building connections between residents within neighbourhoods is important. It strengthens communities, helps us to feel safe and connected, and provides a sense of purpose.

“We had a record number of nominations this year. There were 71 nominations for Good Neighbour of the Year, 28 nominations for Street of the Year, 16 nominations in the Kids’ Choice Category, and 20 kids drawing entries,” he said.

Shellharbour City Council celebrates Neighbour Day, held on the last Sunday of March every year, and the Neighbours Every Day campaign through the Good Neighbour Awards.

Shellharbour City Council is proud to be recognised as a “very neighbourly organisation” by the Neighbour Day Organisation.
