Little Green Bags are BACK

Free Little Green Bags for eco-savvy residents as a way of saying “Thank you very mulch, Shellharbour!”

Shellharbour City Council is celebrating the positive impact of household waste management with an exciting initiative to give back to its eco-conscious residents.

From Tuesday, 1 October 2024, every household in the Shellharbour Local Government Area (LGA) will receive a free six-month supply of Little Green Bags for their FOGO bin.

This giveaway celebrates the community’s remarkable efforts in adopting FOGO initiatives. Recent studies have shown a 41% increase in the use of AS4736 compostable bags since 2021, reflecting the dedication of over 14,000 households towards a greener future.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Shellharbour,” said Mayor Chris Homer. “Our community’s growing dedication to sorting their waste correctly is inspiring. The free Little Green Bags are our way of saying “Thank you very mulch” for making Shellharbour a greener place to live.”

In addition to the bag giveaway, Shellharbour City Council is thrilled to launch a new FOGO video as part of the “Waste, Let’s Get It Sorted” initiative. The video, featuring our vibrant new Waste characters, aims to make waste sorting fun, engaging and educational.

The celebration doesn’t stop there! Throughout October, Council will run competitions and giveaways with prizes including FOGO-themed Yeti cups. Follow Shellharbour City Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages to stay updated and get involved.

“This month is all about celebrating our collective achievements and encouraging more participation in our waste reduction efforts,” added Mayor Homer. “We’re excited to share these initiatives and keep the momentum going.”
