Shellharbour City Council’s new depot services building has been awarded a prestigious engineering prize from the NSW & ACT Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA).

The building, located in Oak Flats, was recognised at the IPWEA NSW Excellence in Engineering Awards last Thursday night, picking up the Category 1B award - projects greater than $500,000 but less than $5 million.

Council’s Director Amenity and Assets, Ben Stewart was there to receive the award on Council’s behalf.

The Engineering Excellence Award recognises the excellence of local government and public works through inspiration, innovation, collaboration, development and completion of projects and technical management.

The awards are part of IPWEA’s annual state conference, where councils throughout NSW are encouraged to nominate projects and programs and share best practice with industry peers.

The new depot building is a fit-for purpose, collaborative space with natural lighting and flexible wall arrangements to increase airflow and promote an indoor/outdoor work environment.

It is inclusive and accessible to reflect Council’s modern workforce, providing quality amenities with space for meetings and shared services.

Shellharbour City Council CEO Mike Archer paid tribute to the key staff behind the project.

“To receive this industry recognition is a credit to Council’s vision, and to the staff who helped bring the project to fruition,” Mr Archer said.

“Congratulations to our Director Amenity & Assets Ben Stewart and Council officers Anne Peden and Scott Spiers who managed project delivery for the major stages of the new building,” he said.

Council worked alongside Bokor Architects and Interiors on the project.
