Shellharbour City Council’s new dog park is ready for spring

Warilla’s new dog park means Shellharbour City residents have even more choice when it comes to areas to enjoy with their canine companions.

Mayor Chris Homer said the new dog park was a wonderful addition to Council’s growing number of dog-friendly spaces.

He said that community consultation used to inform Council’s Dog Friendly Spaces Strategy found that more than 80% of those surveyed wanted to see an increase in dog-friendly spaces across the city.

“Shellharbour City has about 30,000 registered dogs and a population of more than 78,000, making dog owners a key user group of our open spaces,” Mayor Homer said.

“Council has been working to provide additional dog-friendly spaces throughout the city to facilitate opportunities for socialisation and exercise.

“This latest addition to our city’s dog-friendly areas offers a beautiful space for dogs and their owners to socialise, exercise and enjoy the outdoors,” he said.

The Warilla Dog Park includes separated fenced off areas for small and large dogs, drinking fountains (for dogs and humans), tunnels, ramps, and shaded seating.

Council designed the dog park using community feedback via its Let’s Chat page.

There are now several places around Shellharbour City where dog owners can exercise their dogs off-leash.

•    Dog Park located on Whittaker Street, Flinders
