Shellharbour City Council is calling on residents to make a nomination for the 2021 Australia Day Citizen Awards to recognise those who make a positive difference in the community.

Each year Council acknowledges the unsung heroes who make outstanding contributions through volunteering and individual acts of compassion, generosity, or bravery.

Award categories include Citizen of the Year, and Young Citizen of the Year for nominees aged under 25.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that each year she was inspired by the passion and dedication of those nominated.

“The Citizen of the Year Awards are an opportunity to give thanks to the special people that enrich the daily lives of people in our community,” Cr Saliba said.

“If you think you might know someone that contributes to making Shellharbour City such a fantastic place to live, work and play, I encourage you to make their day and fill out a nomination form,” she said.

Previous award winners have come from a range of diverse backgrounds and have included young people taking action for a brighter future, passionate volunteers, high achieving sports people and those dedicated to sustaining our natural environment.

Nominations are open until 4.30 pm, Friday 4 December 2020, and have now closed.
