Shellharbour City Council has secured a grant worth just over $1 million for the renewal of amenities at Panorama Oval, Oak Flats.

The successful application for grant funding was made under the NSW State Government’s 2021/22 Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.

The Panorama Oval amenities renewal project will provide a facility that is functional and compliant to current standards, is accessible and is designed with considerations of equality and sustainability to enable increased participation of organised sport and community activities at Oak Flats.

The proposed new amenities include modern change rooms, first aid room, referees’ room, meeting room, canteen, public toilets and a rainwater harvesting system to minimise the use of potable water. The project also includes increased onsite parking via a formalised accessible car park.

This $1.5 million project includes approximately $500k of Council contributions and is currently being designed. The project is expected to be completed by approximately mid-2023.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said designs for the new amenities were yet to be finalised and that consultation with sporting clubs and the community were ongoing.

“Council is looking forward to being able to share the designs for the renewal project very soon, and I’m very pleased that the Oak Flats sporting and recreational community will see some spending and new infrastructure in their community,” Mayor Homer said.

The Mayor expressed his appreciation to the NSW State Government for its support in funding the project.

“I want to sincerely thank the Parliamentary Secretary for Wollongong and the Illawarra, the Hon Peter Poulos MLC, and the Minister for Tourism and Sport, the Hon Stuart Ayres MP, for their tremendous support for this project,” Mayor Homer said.

Parliamentary Secretary for Wollongong and the Illawarra Peter Poulos said that through the $100 million NSW Government’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund, the vibrant local community could now benefit from modern, inclusive and accessible facilities.
