Shellharbour City Council has revealed a new all-inclusive playground design as part of the Reddall Reserve Master Plan.

The playground will be located on the Eastern side of Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra and has been adapted to incorporate a piece of the reserve’s history, inspired by the story of The Red Lamp.

The new play space utilises principles of inclusive design and accessibility to create a space that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy.

It includes an eight metre high cube tower with a rope bridge leading to a castle style accessible podium, a 25 metre double flying fox with inclusive seat, in-ground trampolines, various slides and climbing structures, as well as musical sensory panels, an inclusive carousel and a mega cantilever swing.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the new playground is set to be one of the biggest in the region.

“The final design has been directly informed from extensive community feedback. Council has done a fantastic job at incorporating the community’s requests, ideas and aspirations,” Cr Saliba said.

“The result is yet another playground that goes far beyond just equipment. It is an entire space designed to unleash the imagination, tell stories, and create new stories for many years ahead,” she Saliba said.

“With such a diverse range of play opportunities the new space will be sure to capture the senses and create joy for every visitor.

“It’s an exciting glimpse into Reddall Reserve’s future as a significant regional destination,” she said.

Reddall Reserve also has plans for two new public artworks to be installed later on in the year, as well as renewals on the existing boat ramp.
