Shellharbour City Council has called for artists and creative teams to submit expressions of interest for the development of two key public art opportunities.

Submissions are open for the creation of a mural on the entrance wall at the Oak Flats interchange, corner of New Lake Entrance Road and Pioneer Drive.

The new Oak Flats mural will contribute to the vibrancy of the area and is an exciting opportunity to create a highly visible artwork at one of the key gateways to the city.

EOIs for Aboriginal artists to create artworks that will be incorporated into the signage for the Aboriginal Interpretive Signage Walk closed earlier this week.

The signage walk will help share elements of local Aboriginal culture and heritage to the broader community and will be located along the edge of Lake Illawarra, with potential to expand into other local sites.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said the artworks would be significant additions to the community’s growing public art scene.

“The public artworks popular locations will make them highly visible to community members and visitors to the area, and are an exciting opportunity for artists to connect, inspire and spark curiosity,” Cr Saliba said.
