Shellharbour City Council has launched its latest tourism campaign highlighting the compelling range of experiences that can be enjoyed locally.

Mayor Chris Homer said the ‘Good Times’ campaign was an exciting development for local tourism.

“It is a departure from traditional tourism marketing approaches and will certainly generate interest in visiting Shellharbour,” Mayor Homer said.

“The campaign uses vintage-style illustrations of Shellharbour locations to evoke feelings and memories of happy seaside holidays spent in a beautiful place’.

‘We are competing with other destinations to attract tourists so decided to take an innovative approach to engage with potential visitors.

“The ‘Good Times’ campaign captures the essence of what an escape or getaway is all about and Shellharbour can certainly deliver the goods in this regard,” he said.

The campaign features evocative illustrations of specific experiences visitors can enjoy in the Shellharbour area. It is designed around seasonal experiences and the illustrations used will change as the seasons change.

The first phase of the ‘Good Times’ campaign highlights spring experiences of whale watching, dining, golf and cycling. The second phase will focus on summer activities involving beach, lake and rainforest experiences.

The campaign will increase brand awareness of Shellharbour City and showcase the diverse tourism offerings available to encourage year-round visitation for both day tripping and multi-night stays.

Mayor Homer said the campaign targeted Shellharbour’s growing tourism markets from western Sydney.

“We know that people from this part of Sydney are seeking both short and longer stays at destinations close to home and are increasingly attracted to our wonderful city. This campaign will build on this existing market recognition,” Mayor Homer said.

The ‘Good Times’ campaign includes digital and fixed outdoor advertising components. Potential visitors can use QR codes on outdoor advertising to find immediate information about visiting Shellharbour, including booking accommodation and a range of experiences.

Mayor Homer said this was the first campaign conducted since the administration of all tourism activities in the City transitioned to Council from the Tourism Shellharbour industry association.

“Tourism Shellharbour made a significant and valuable contribution to local tourism for well over 30 years. Recently, its Board felt the time was right, with the new tourism infrastructure and developments in the city, for Council to assume responsibility for all tourism activities.

“The Good Times campaign will continue the successes achieved by previous Shellharbour-focussed campaigns,” Mayor Homer said.
