Shellharbour City Council is inviting residents to come together to celebrate multiculturalism with this year’s Cultural Treasures Festival.

Cultural Treasures is held annually during Harmony Week to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the Illawarra region with family-friendly multicultural workshops, activities and performance.

This year’s activities will be held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre from 9.30am, Monday 15 March with an Aboriginal Welcome to Country and traditional cultural dance from Aboriginal experience and education group, Gumaraa.

Activities across the week include Aboriginal story time and craft, African bead bracelet workshop, movie screening of Alex & Eve, Indian cooking class, Mexican Mariachi and bread-making workshop.

The festival features a performance by The Voice finalist Masha Mnjovan with local guitarist Sako Dermerjian.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that this year’s festival was a feast for the senses.

“Multiculturalism is an important feature of our city and enriches all aspects of life. Each and every cultural background adds to the fabric of what makes Shellharbour such a fantastic place to live,” Cr Saliba said.

“The experience of coming together with friends, loved ones and neighbours to learn, feast, dance and create is truly special. I encourage everyone to join in the fun,” she said.
