Release

Shellharbour Youth Services, in partnership with youth service teams at Kiama, Wollongong and Shoalhaven Councils, are facilitating a free online skate competition for local young people, commencing on Friday 15 May 2020.

The joint initiative is supported by the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative (ASCI), and encourages young people in the region to follow social distancing guidelines, whilst maintaining their health and wellbeing by staying active.

The competition will be held across one month, closing on Sunday 14 June 2020. Competitors are required to film and perform tricks in their own backyards, driveways and garages, and enter their videos through the online competition platform, Clippero.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the competition was a great opportunity for local skaters to get creative and have fun at home.

“Skateboarding is a highly social sport, and for many young people provides great benefit for their overall mental and physical wellbeing. This online skate competition will allow young people to reconnect with other skaters online, and explore their talents from home,” Cr Saliba said.

The online skate championships is open to all genders under the age of 25 years, living within one of the host Local Government Areas (Shellharbour, Wollongong, Kiama and Shoalhaven). Competitors can enter into the following age divisions:

  • Under 12
  • Under 16
  • Under 25

The competitors will be judged by professional skateboards, and winners will be announced on 21 June 2020. To view past entries from other areas visit: www.clippero.com/skateboarding
