Release

With school holidays underway and warmer weather enticing people outdoors, Shellharbour Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba is asking the community to stay COVID-safe in the city’s open spaces.

With beach patrols starting this weekend, Cr Saliba said it was important for people to comply with NSW Health restrictions in orders at all times to keep everyone safe.

“Unfortunately, once again this is shaping up to be a very different summer. It has been a long, challenging few months for everyone,” Cr Saliba said.

“Right now Shellharbour City is still subject to ‘stay at home rules’. Everyone needs to abide by the Public Health Orders. Our highest priority is keeping people safe,” Cr Saliba said.

“We want people to get out and appreciate fresh air and sunshine, but it is important to remember that the Public Health Orders relating to the outdoors apply to all open spaces, from our beaches to our playgrounds, reserves and dog parks.

“If our open spaces start to become crowded, look for another space to enjoy. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful areas to choose from in Shellharbour City.

“With active cases in the community, we need to be vigilant and stay on top of this situation.

“I also remind people to swim between the flags when at the beach and to stay safe both in and out of the water,” Cr Saliba said.

She also asked people to remember the following when out and about in the city:

  • Comply with Public Health Orders which allows for 5 vaccinated adults (aged 12 & over) to engage in outdoor recreation in your LGA or within 5km of home.

  • Move to uncrowded open spaces if you find social distancing is not possible.

  • Wear a mask.

  • Check in/out if heading to shops
