Release

Shellharbour City Council has extended the swim season for Oak Flats 50 metre heated pool until Friday 25 June 2021.

The eight-week extension is part of a new trial that has been developed in response to community feedback and anticipated operational benefits.

Following the heating of the Oak Flats 50 metre pool in November last year, council received numerous requests to extend the pool season.

The extension will provide increased lane availability to better meet customer demand during peak swimming times in the colder months.

The 50-metre pool is also heated to a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, which is more ideal for lap swimming compared to the 25-metre pool that’s heated to approximately 29 degrees Celsius.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the trial would be well received by the community.

“Oak Flats Pool is well utilised by the public, year-round, and is the most popular of Council’s three chlorinated pools,” Cr Saliba said.

“The extension will provide the community with continued convenience of accessing the facility at times that suit them, as well as enhance opportunities to remain active during the colder seasons,” she said
