Release

Shellharbour City Council has begun upgrades to Warilla Town Centre to create a more attractive and comfortable environment.

The upgrades include installation of street furniture, shading from trees, and renewed landscaping and pavements.

The upgrades will cover George Street, between Shellharbour Road and Terry Avenue, and also between Beverley Avenue and Brian Street.

Works will occur in two stages to minimise disruption to local businesses and the community and to reduce loss of car parking spaces.

Stage 1 will include new trees along George Street, new furniture, pressure cleaning and accessibility upgrades.

Stage 2 will include a new amenities building and public space on Beverly Avenue, however final plans are yet to be confirmed.

The street and footpaths will remain accessible and there will be no road closures throughout construction.

Shellharbour City Council CEO, Carey McIntyre said the upgrade would make the town centre more accessible and attractive.

“Council incorporated feedback from the community and local businesses to assist in the planning of this upgrade and it is considered the work that is planned will greatly enhance the amenity of this part of Warilla,” Mr McIntyre said.
