WATERFRONT CENTRE DA APPROVED

Multipurpose facility to be a ‘community heart’ for residents and visitors

Shell Cove is one step closer to the creation of a central community ‘heart’ with the approval of the Waterfront Centre development application (DA).

The modern, purpose-built Waterfront Centre will be home to a community spaces, library, meeting rooms for hire, Visitor Information Centre, public amenities, outdoor terraces, and flexible spaces for a variety of activities.

The vision is to create a vibrant heart in the centre of Shell Cove that brings together the local community and visitors to the area. Centrally located overlooking Shellharbour Marina, parklands and the harbourside boardwalk, the Waterfront Centre, just a short stroll from the town centre and waterfront dining precinct.

The Waterfront Centre’s design draws inspiration from maritime heritage and is reminiscent of a tugboat’s curves, symbolically reflecting the tugboat’s role as the operational heart and soul of harbours. Construction is expected to start in December 2024 and is anticipated to take approximately 12 months, subject to weather.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said approval of the DA for the Waterfront Centre marked another milestone in the Shell Cove Project. “It is exciting seeing the vision for this long-term project coming to fruition.

The Waterfront Centre is a community heart for residents and visitors alike,” Mayor Homer said. “This project recognises the importance of social and economic benefits for Shellharbour City and provides the area with community improvements that locals and tourists use every day. “This new multipurpose facility will be a wonderful asset for our growing community and will give the residents of our city the facilities they deserve,” he said.
