Release

Council is calling for artist EOIs for two new public art projects in Shellharbour City.

City Gateway Project
The City Gateway Project will involve two ‘statement pieces’ to mark the north and south gateways into Shellharbour.

The artworks will be installed at the beginning and end of the Albion Park Rail Bypass as a way to welcome motorists into Shellharbour City.

Shellharbour City Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba said that Council was committed to implementing initiatives, which would make the city a dynamic and vibrant place.

“This project is a great opportunity to showcase the talent of our community and welcome people to the area”, Cr Saliba said.

Council is strongly encouraging local and First Nations artists to apply.

Applications close Sunday, 10 October 2021.

Lake Illawarra Art Trail – Indigenous Artist commission

Shellharbour City Council is also seeking EOIs from Aboriginal artists.

The project will consist of a sculptural or installation-based piece or series of works that connect a wide theme or story.

The work will be installed at Reddall Reserve and will reflect the Aboriginal heritage significance of the area and will be visible from the road, path and surrounding facilities.

The art trail was established along the Lake Illawarra foreshore in 2014 and currently consists of eight artworks.

Preference will be given to First Nations artists who are connected through country or lived experience.

Applications close Sunday 17 October 2021.

Shellharbour City Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba said the projects were a great opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and would enhance the physical environment of the area.

“Shellharbour City Council is committed to acknowledging, respecting and celebrating the local Aboriginal community. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent and culture of our Aboriginal people”, Cr Saliba said.
