STRATEGIC STEPS TOWARDS SHELLHARBOUR’S SUSTAINABLE WASTE FUTURE
Draft Waste and Sustainable Materials on public exhibition
Shellharbour City Council is calling on the community to review and provide feedback on the draft Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2024 – 2034.
The strategy provides a framework for responsible and sustainable waste management in Shellharbour over the next ten years.
It has been developed to align with the Federal and State Government’s new strategic direction that focuses on creating a circular economy and ensuring suitable infrastructure is available to sustainably manage materials.
Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said that as a community we have an opportunity to take the lead in working towards zero waste.
“Last year, a kerbside waste audit was undertaken and identified that one third of materials in the waste bin could have been recovered through FOGO,” Mayor Homer said.
“Making positive habits that contribute to waste and carbon emission reduction will support resilience into the future, particularly as our city’s population continues to experience rapid growth,” he said.
The strategy is on public exhibition until Monday 5 August. To review the document please visit Let's Chat.
