CELEBRATE A COMMUNITY CHAMPION
Shellharbour City Council is inviting the community to nominate a fantastic neighbour for this year’s Good Neighbour Awards.
The awards celebrate locals who go above and beyond to lend a helping hand, offer support, and care for people in their neighbourhoods.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said the awards were a great way to celebrate everyday legends who make a difference in their community.
“Whether it’s Sarah across the road who brings in Nancy’s bins, or George next door who shares his delicious home-cooked meals, we all know someone who makes their community brighter.”
“Strong connections between neighbours help create a welcoming, safe, and supportive community,” Mayor Homer said.
Award categories include:
- Good Neighbour of the Year
- Street of the Year
- Children's Drawing Competition
Nominating someone is a great way to say thank you to a neighbour who makes a difference. Plus, you’ll go in the draw to win fantastic prizes! Thanks to our generous sponsors, last year’s awards featured over $2,000 in prizes.
Last year’s Good Neighbour of the Year Winners Greg and Sue Walsh said that being nominated for Neighbour of the Year was absolutely fabulous.
“We felt very proud because we just like to help each other out. We’re the type of people who stay connected in the community and if anyone wants a helping hand, well, we’re always there,” they said.
Shellharbour has been recognising Good Neighbours since 2001. The awards are part of Relationship Australia's National Neighbour Day, held annually on the last Sunday of March.
Nominations are open to Shellharbour residents only and will close on Saturday, 22 March 2025, with the winners announced in April.
