Release

Shellharbour City Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from local artists and designers to celebrate a new public art display titled ‘Art in Unexpected Places’.

The project will use bus shelters to exhibit and display local works of art and designs to help create more vibrant and dynamic city spaces, showcasing the work of local creatives.

The selected artist or designer will be asked to create an artwork series that will be exhibited across four sites. The artists and artworks will change each quarter with new work.

The artwork should be unique, contemporary, have conceptual links to the surrounding area and reflect the people and place of each site.

The four site locations will be bus shelters on the Princes Highway, Lake Entrance Road and Shellharbour Road.

Shellharbour Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba said the project was an exciting opportunity to enliven a space with the work of local artists and provide an innovative way to showcase local visual artwork.

“Inviting local artists to come forward and show us their talent is always an exciting part of the process for Council’s art projects,” Cr Saliba said.

“Placing local art in bus shelters is a wonderfully unique way to brighten people’s day and add to the growing arts and culture locations in our city,” she said.

EOIs close on Sunday 19 September.
