More things like this Mural Festival - 2023

More Things Like This brought together high-profile mural artists and local, emerging street artists to create four murals in the City's graffiti hotspots. The mural festival provided a unique mentorship opportunity for up and coming artists to build their skills and connections, helping to expand the local talent pool for future large-scale artworks.

It is an expansion of Shellharbour’s Urban Art Program, which has successfully reduced graffiti, increased community ownership and built a stronger sense of pride in neighbourhoods.

The artworks include:

  • Still Life Blues by Alex Sugar at 155 Tongarra Road, Albion Park
  • Locking Horns by Ling at 161 Tongarra Road, Albion Park
  • House in the Hills by Helen Proctor at 191 Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail
  • Unceasing Day & Evening Sky by Michael Black at Hall Lane, Warilla

Check out this page HERE to find out more about each artwork.

Shellharbour City Council partnered with Verb Syndicate to deliver this project.

Phoenix Rising by Trait

This mural is a play on the story of the Phoenix Rising. In Trait’s painting, the Black Swans are rising out of the Waratah Flowers in a loving embrace. The artwork incorporates native species found in the region-  the Swans representing the coastal plain; the Waratahs representing the highlands; and the Illawarra Flame Tree flowers represent the escarpment. Faint silhouettes of the native phragmites (reeds) have also been included along the wall in other blank spaces to tie the whole wall together.
